Moxibustion is a Traditional Chinese Medicine therapy which uses moxa, a cigar-like stick made of compressed, dried leaves of Chinese mugwort (Artemesia Argyi, Ai Ye). Chinese mugwort produces a unique form of strong, penetrating heat that is very effective to treat especially “cold” conditions. The moxa stick is lit and, as it smolders, it is held close to—without touching—the surface of the skin over specific areas where treatment is desired. Burning moxa produces an odor similar to that of cannabis; however, Chinese mugwort is not in the cannabis family and there are no side-effects involved in its use.
